Over the past 18 months, we have answered A LOT of questions from our users. We tend to see a lot of duplicates that are addressed in our FAQ, but spread out in different documents. To help you get the answers you need quick, we have listed the top questions we get asked, and their answers.

Q: How come I didn't get badge X? / How do I get badge X?

A: We get this question a lot. Uncovering how to unlock a badge is a challenge and what makes earning badges on Untappd fun. It's about beer exploration and we like to be witty as possible with our messages. With V2, we do provide some badge status bars as a helper to see how far you are with some badges. If you want to know how to get a badge, please check with friends who have it, search on Google, or use third-party badge websites. We want you to uncover the clues to unlock the badge, and we don't like giving that away as it spoils it for you.

As for the other piece, around 99% of the time users ask why they didn't get badge, they didn't fully understand the requirements. Use the search box of this forum and search around to see if your badge question has been asked. Remember, we separate badges by 3 types (Beer, Location and Special). If there a badge that you want in the Location tab, it is going to require some use of a location to unlock it. For beer badges, there is no location requirement. Special badges are for our partner badges and are usually announced on our blog (http://blog.untappd.com).

Another important note: You can only get badges by checking in. That means, for badges like Toast King and Social Drinker, you will need to check-in to get those badges. Even if you meet the criteria before checking in, nothing will happen until you do.

If you have any question about this - please let us know. We know that everyone loves badges and that's a big feature of our service. We firmly believe that experience can be enhanced by users going and seeking out how to earn badges by exploration, which is why we will never 100% give away the badge in our description. You can always search third-party sites for information about Untappd badges (though we cannot confirm third party information about Untappd). We do not provide any guidance, unless there are technical issues, around badges. Keep checking in, search Google, and ask you friends. It's way more fun that way!

Q: I can't seem to get a location (or add a venue) on Untappd! So frustrating - please help!?

A: Take a look at http://untpd.it/gps and try to follow all the instructions. The major one is rebooting your phone (after placing it in Airplane mode) If it doesn't work, please open a help ticket.

Q: How can I upload a profile picture from the app?

A: You can upload your profile picture on any one of the native application by tapping on your profile picture, in the Profile tab.

Q: I don't know what my username is. How can I find it?

A: You username is listed under your Display Name in your Profile Pages on the App or Web. Your username is your LOGIN ID which is what you use get into the service. When you look at your feed, you will see a combination of a user's First Name and Last Name. If you are not friends with a user, you will see their first name and the first initial of the last name (ex. Greg A.)

You can change your first name and last name (which make up your Display name) on the Settings page of the app or at http://untappd.com/account on the web.

Please note: Your username is NOT your Display Name. A username has no spaces and only has alpha-numeric characters.

Q: My email is incorrect and I can't reset my password.

A: Open a ticket and make sure you include the following: Your Date of Birth, Email Address, and Username. We can reset it for you.

Q: Something doesn't work, I need help!

A: We're not perfect so we want to help whenever this is an issue. To allow us to help, please ALWAYS include the following information when you submit a ticket:

  • Your Username (Not display name)
  • Your Device/Browser (iPhone 4, iPad, Android HTC Sense, Mozilla Firefox)
  • A full description of the issue and what troubleshooting you have done. Remember, "I hit this button and it doesn't work" - doesn't help us because we need to know your process flow.
  • Include screen-shots if you can.

Q: Why can't I edit a beer/brewery I created?

A: Once a brewery is claimed (has an "Official" logo on the page), you loose rights to editing for that beer/brewery. You can always propose edits on the native iOS and Android apps (http://untpd.it/proposeedits). You can always post edits on the help forums (http://help.untappd.com/discussions/beerbrewey-merge-requests), but make sure you make the post public, so our moderators can pick it up.

Q: I would like to upload beer labels and make edits globally. How can I do that?

A: We currently have a Super User program that we allow a team of moderators to curate the data. We are currently full right now, but if you are interested in being part of this program in the future, start to request merges, edit and label uploads on our site. The more you add, the more you will get noticed!

Q: I would like to change my timestamp, comment, and/or location after the check-in has occurred. How can I do this?

A: We currently do not support editing a check-in after it has occurred. Our service is geared for real-time, and isn't meant for back-dating.

Q: How can I import beers that I have had in the past?

A: We do not support this currently, as we are geared toward a real-time service.

Q: I can't find this bar when I search for it under the "Nearby Bars" tab.

A: You need to search for bars in the Confirm Screen - that text box is to search for city/state combinations and get the venues around you, it's not not meant for venue search.
